Marriage in a Blended Family

The end of something might be sad, but as the saying goes, when one door closes… you know the rest.

July 1st was our second anniversary. Yes, we’ve been together many many years before that, but this was the day the six of us were formerly united as a family.

“There were times in our relationship before getting engaged that I didn’t even think we would make it.”

Not for lack of love and wanting to be together, but wondering if it would be a lifetime of struggle. There was drama with exes and there was fighting amongst the kids. There were stresses I never even knew existed and yet, the commitment and ridiculous amounts of love we had for each other and our family stood strong.

Mike and I are constantly declaring how much we love each other and how it keeps growing stronger. I’m amazed by it actually. We’ve been through so many things that have felt so incredibly hard and yet one thing has always felt so easy – knowing that no matter what it is, we want to do it together.

We are just headed back from Cabo San Lucas, where I had the honor of officiating our two best friends in marriage and then sneaking off for an additional time at a surprise location for our anniversary.

As we travel back home, I have a big smile on my face as I think of the many families that chose to be with each other. The children that get to have amazing influences and more parents to love them. The couples that got another chance at love and the extended families that have come together.

The end of something might be sad, but as the saying goes, when one door closes… you know the rest.
